ClearFeed Privacy Policy

ClearFeed (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) is a Chrome browser extension that helps you reduce passive scrolling on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. This policy explains what information the extension handles and how it is used.

1. What ClearFeed does

When enabled, ClearFeed runs only on these websites:

• youtube.com — hides addictive feeds (Shorts, home feed, recommendations, autoplay) and may show a focus replacement screen
• instagram.com — hides Reels, Explore, Stories bar, and suggested content where configured
• tiktok.com — hides For You / Following feeds and distracting navigation where configured

Optional features include Exam Mode (timed focus sessions with site blocking), doomscroll detection (session duration and scroll alerts), streaks, and focus statistics. All of these run on your device.

2. Information we collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store your data on our servers. ClearFeed does not require an account and does not send your browsing activity to us or to third-party analytics services.

The extension may store the following locally in your browser using Chrome’s storage APIs (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local):

This data stays on your computer and, for sync storage items, may sync across your Chrome profile if you have Chrome Sync enabled — that sync is managed by Google, not by ClearFeed.

3. What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal information
• We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers
• We do not read passwords, payment details, or private messages on any site
• We do not access websites other than YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok for content modification

4. Permissions explained

ClearFeed requests Chrome permissions only to provide its features:

• storage — save your settings and statistics locally
• tabs — open the options page and refresh tabs when you change settings
• scripting — inject the exam timer while Exam Mode is active
• alarms — daily streak checks and exam session timers
• notifications — Pomodoro phase alerts during Exam Mode
• declarativeNetRequest — block distracting sites only during active Exam Mode (with optional whitelist)
• Host access — limited to youtube.com, instagram.com, and tiktok.com

5. Data encryption

ClearFeed does not transmit your extension data to our servers. Because no personal data is sent to us, there is no ClearFeed-operated data transfer to encrypt. Data stored by Chrome on your device is protected by your operating system and Chrome’s own security model.

6. How to delete your data

You can remove ClearFeed data at any time:

• Reset statistics: Open ClearFeed → Settings (options page) → About ClearFeed → Reset Stats
• Export first (optional): About ClearFeed → Download JSON to save a copy of your settings and stats
• Remove everything: Uninstall ClearFeed from chrome://extensions. This removes locally stored extension data from your browser

If you use Chrome Sync, synced settings may remain in your Google account until you clear synced extension data in Chrome settings.

7. Children’s privacy

ClearFeed is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy when ClearFeed’s features change. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised. Continued use of the extension after changes means you accept the updated policy.
